
Illinois and New Hampshire require road tests for renewal applicants 75 and older. California forbids mail renewal for drivers 70 and older, as do Alaska, Arizona and Louisiana. Utah tests for poor eyesight in drivers 65 and older. But Florida isn't alone in the crackdown against unsafe senior drivers.


Thirty-seven states don't have tougher license restrictions on older drivers. "But we also think that older drivers get a bad rap." "We want people to be safe drivers for as long as possible," Bodiford said.

They also required state agencies to study ways of improving transportation for those who can no longer drive.
